My Thoughts of 2017 from SRCWA President

                                                                                                       December 25, 2017

Merry Christmas Everyone,

WOW!!!! 2017 near the end, l cannot believe how fast it has come, accomplishing goals we applied and yet still continue to do great things for our communities. We had an awesome year with the Parades, events with Greet & Meet at the Schools, Meet the New Mayor, Town Hall Meetings due to crime.
When elected President l can tell you it was a slow start and doing my best to be a good leader with my group, members, the communities. I would like to say l continue to stay involved with the residents, how proud l am of my members, the communities and my group on the hard work we do to help one another on crime, keeping the communication open with our communities, l feel by working together makes us stronger and with what has been happening in the Sturgeon County area's on crime, as this has to stop but hope l have the help of everyone to continue to be a strong deterrent towards these crimes and we will not stop till our voices are heard.
I will continue on my quest with sharing your ideas on crime, issues concerning on how to prevent it and bring them forward, meetings with PC Government on the action they may apply, have the opportunity to talk with the Top brass in the RCMP as l know we are not the only ones with these problems. I am very passionate in what l do and enjoy this position as l will continue to work with everyone be engaged with you, communities and government officials as well.

So let's bring 2018 in with a BANG!!!!!!!, l know it will be a busy year with lots of fun as always. We are always looking for New members and welcoming you all to our meetings, where we can share idea's, plus we will change up our meeting to other area's to make it interesting  as well. I know we say it over and over but it does works, Report anything you see, hear, l understand the frustration on not hearing back, but the Morinville Detachment is working hard to answer the calls, and being short staffed, lets help them as this will be our goal to let the government know they need to step up and bring forward a plan to help put more officers on the front line.
I hope that you all had awesome Christmas but remember the New Year is around the corner and l would like you to be safe, No Drinking and Driving, get a friend to drive, grab a cab, or stay over night at a friends, it is not worth it anymore so let us bring in 2018 together.
Thank you all for being so supportive, being patient with me, and trusting that l can get the job done. I appreciate your kindness, conversations, friendships too, l feel that 2018 will be good to us and hope to see some new volunteers too.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!!

Aircraft Struck with Green Laser

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                 December 7th, 2017

Endangering Aircraft - Sturgeon County, AB

On the evening of December 6th, 2017 Nav Canada informed Morinville RCMP of an incident near the Villeneuve Airport in Sturgeon County wherein an approaching aircraft was struck with a green laser.  Fortunately, the pilot was able to land the aircraft safely.  Morinville RCMP want to remind the public of the dangers of a laser strike on an aircraft.  The laser can temporarily blind the pilot, create intense glare that affect's the pilots vision, and distract the pilot putting all people aboard the aircraft at serious risk.  As per Transport Canada's website there were over 500 reported laser strikes in 2016.  It's a disturbing statistic - it means the safety of pilots, crew and passengers were put at risk 500 times that year. Pointing a laser at an aircraft is illegal and a criminal offence. Under the Aeronautics Act, if you are convicted of pointing a laser at an aircraft, you could face up to $100 000 in fines, 5 years in jail or both.

If you have any information on this crime, please contact the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520. If you want to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by internet at www.tipsubmit.com.  You do not have to reveal your identity and if you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest you may be eligible for a cash reward.

Lights On! Doors locked! Pass it On!

Hello Everyone,

These 2 emails were sent for me to post so everyone is aware on what is happening in these subdivision areas, Northpointe and Skyglen, the concern resident wanted to let you all know to be vigilant of your surroundings, l ask that you report it, don't think  just do it. I can assure you it is filed when you call and will be investigated. I have your back, so do not hesitate to contact me as l am there to help you in anyway l can. Thank you to the concern resident as well, al so like the quote that is perfect.

Thanks,

Hi - I know how busy the RCMP are and you too but am forwarding this to you from someone in our subdivision - we had vandalism and break ins here that occurred on Mon morning (Dec 4)about 3 am and though I know we should always be vigilant the more warnings we have the more vigilant we become.  North Point is very close to our subdivision (Skyglen) so perhaps it would have helped us if it had been posted on Crime Watch.
Thanks for what you do,

In the gazette it was written that 4 properties were victims of the same type of crime in Northpointe on Nov 30th. They also stole a vehicle from there and were checking garages & such.

I also noticed a car that had driven through the ditch and up to the road by the rv storage down the road, that was Wed morning. The RCMP seemed very interested in it by day’s end.

I wish the police had let area residents know about the break ins in Northpointe, we would’ve been on alert and perhaps could’ve prevented being victims or maybe even caught them in the act.

Lights on! Doors locked! Pass it on!

A note, along with Information on the Home Invasion on charges laid

Hello to all Members,

My Apologies to all my members, as l had not posted this information but thought l did, just to let you know l have been working hard to help you to be more deterrent towards the crime. The crimes continue to happen along with  more aggressiveness, areas are getting hit over again, and the frustration of hearing nothing as they report it. I do understand the anger, frustration and the question Why should we report it when the RCMP don't come? My answer to that is Please call, it does get filed and everyone knows the RCMP are working 24/7 long shifts and yes, communications is a big part but lets work together to build this trust and show how strong of a community we can be.

Thank you
